Apple’s long-awaited Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is scheduled to begin this Monday, and the technology giant promises to surprise with the launch of the beta version of iOS 18, aimed at an exclusive selection of iPhones.
Although the full version of iOS 18 is expected to be released to the general public only in the fall, MacRumors sources indicate that members of the Apple Developer Program will have immediate access to the first beta version following a keynote by Tim Cook at WWDC. A public beta is scheduled for July.
Titled “Crystal”, the next major update to Apple’s operating system promises bold innovations focused on artificial intelligence (AI). One of the most anticipated new features is an enhanced version of Siri, equipped with generative AI – the same technology behind ChatGPT – allowing a virtual assistant to conduct natural conversations and provide personalized responses based on the user’s usage patterns.
Another interesting feature is the AI’s ability to create “self-generated playlists” in Apple Music. In addition, support for RCS (Rich Communication Services) is expected to be included, an evolution of the current SMS and MMS systems, which will provide iPhone users with features already known in iMessage messages also when exchanging messages with Android users. These features include:
- Read confirmation
- Typing indicators
- Sending high quality media

Interestingly, an anonymous tipster on X (formerly known as Twitter) suggested, in a now-deleted tweet, that iOS 18 could be compatible with devices that are up to eight years old. A significant extension compared to the five years of updates normally offered by Apple.
According to reports from MacRumors, these are the Apple products that should receive this new update soon:
